Helen Williams grew up in Birmingham, England. She completed her MD degree, residency in pediatrics and fellowship in neonatology at Emory University. Helen now works as a neonatologist at Grady Memorial Hospital and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Helen joined the Master of Arts in bioethics program in 2009 as part of the inaugural class. She became interested in bioethics when she was struck by the multiple ethical dilemmas that arise in the care of critically ill patients near the end of life. For eight years, Helen has served on the bioethics committee at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She is involved in the teaching of medical ethics of physicians in training and also physicians in practice. Helen is particularly interested in ethical dilemmas created by technological advances in medicine and the many areas where the law interacts with clinical practice. In the Spring of 2012 she will complete her practicum with the Health Law Partnership (HeLP) at Georgia State University. Helen plans to use her MA to strengthen her teaching of bioethics and to improve the care of pediatric patients near the end of life.
