In her research, Dr. Monica Worline, Assistant Professor of Organization and Management at Emory's Goizueta Business School, talks about courage and compassion in the workplace and has described organizations as "sites of life."
In this interview, I ask her to discuss how moral imagination informs her research and what part she sees sustainability playing in corporate life.

This is another installment in our newsletter series "Meet the Staff," aimed at helping you discover the people behind the Center. In this interview, you will meet Kate O’Dwyer Randall, the Assistant Director for the EASL Program and the Director of the EASL Forum (a weekly, interdisciplinary forum for about twenty students that focuses on service, community building, and leadership development). Learn how this creative, graceful individual came to work at the Center for Ethics.
I found this interview very difficult to structure on paper because Kate is a very creative person who lives in the middle of ambiguities. Her rhythms of speaking and living, her voice, her expressions are all very different from more linear ways of being. Being accustomed to living in the midst of paradoxes is, I believe, what makes her great at her job – she can dwell WITH students inside the ethical questions. |

This is the first in an occasional series for our newsletter called "Meet the Staff" where you can discover the people behind the Center. On Friday, September 9th, I had the privilege of interviewing Marian Osborne, the Center’s Librarian and Administrative Assistant to the Director. Marian has worked at Emory University for thirteen years and at the Center for almost seven of those years. She is, as the heading suggests, one of the many staff members here with much more of a story than mere titles can suggest. Whether discussing SpongeBob SquarePants or end-of-life care, she is a font of wisdom and insight. Below are some of her ethical reflections. |
