Since its inception, the Center has hosted a summer seminar for Emory faculty on varying ethical themes. The composition of the faculty, which usually numbers about 15 persons, is exquisitely interdisciplinary with virtually every school or division in the university having been represented over the years. For two and a half days, May 16-18, the Center for Ethics at Emory University will bring together people from across the university to discuss the ethical concerns that must be addressed as Emory increases its commitment to internationalization.
Faculty and administrators interested in participating should contact Edward Queen at equeen@emory.edu. All participants will receive a modest stipend.

In a number of its recent publications and announcements, especially its vision statement and strategic planning initiatives, Emory University has repeatedly characterized itself as an “ethically engaged” institution.
The Center decided that this was the perfect opportunity to explore what ethically engagement means during our annual faculty ethics seminar in May 2006. Read on to discover some of the duties, challenges, and strategies of an ethically-engaged university.

Currently in its 13th year, this seminar is an interdisciplinary discussion for faculty from across the University. This year's theme is "The Ethically Engaged University" and occurs from May 17 to May 26, in DUC 355, with presentations on specific subtopics by University faculty and administrators. Topics feature: transforming communities and community partnerships, graduate education, university investments, controversial research, and public relations. |
